ClipNote Privacy Policy
ClipNote is a Chrome extension that helps users create timestamped notes, annotations, and screenshots while watching supported YouTube videos and Udemy lectures.
1. Information ClipNote Handles
ClipNote may handle information needed to provide its note-taking and screenshot features, including:
- Note titles and annotations created by the user
- Video and lecture titles
- YouTube video IDs and Udemy course or lecture IDs
- Video URLs and timestamps
- Ordering information for saved moments
- Screenshots captured by the user
- Website content that the user specifically chooses to capture
2. How the Information Is Used
The information handled by ClipNote is used only to provide its core functionality, including creating notes, saving screenshots, connecting saved moments to video timestamps, displaying saved notes, and allowing users to return to previously saved moments.
3. Local Storage
ClipNote is designed to store user data locally on the user's device. Extension settings and note metadata may be stored using Chrome's local extension storage and IndexedDB.
Screenshots may also be saved as files in a folder selected by the user through the extension.
4. Data Transmission
ClipNote does not operate a backend server for storing user notes, annotations, or screenshots.
ClipNote does not sell, rent, or share user notes, screenshots, annotations, or saved learning data with third parties.
ClipNote does not use user data for advertising or behavioral profiling.
5. Website Content
ClipNote operates on supported YouTube and Udemy pages to provide its note-taking and screenshot features. The extension may read video, lecture, course, page, and player information required for these features.
When a user captures a screenshot or saves a moment, the relevant information is stored locally for the user's notes.
6. Web Browsing Activity
ClipNote may store the URL and video or lecture identifiers associated with notes created by the user. This information is used to reconnect saved notes and timestamps with the corresponding video or lecture.
ClipNote does not maintain a separate browsing history and does not track the user's general browsing activity.
7. User-Generated Content
Notes, annotations, screenshots, titles, and saved moments are created by the user. ClipNote stores this information only to provide its note-taking and screenshot functionality.
8. Permissions
ClipNote may request browser permissions such as activeTab, scripting, storage, and access to supported YouTube and Udemy pages.
These permissions are used to display the ClipNote interface, communicate with supported video pages, save notes locally, read necessary video information, and provide screenshot functionality.
9. Third-Party Services
ClipNote does not use third-party advertising or analytics services.
ClipNote does not use a third-party server to store the user's notes or screenshots.
10. Data Security
Because ClipNote is primarily local-first, users retain control over their locally stored notes and screenshots. Users are responsible for protecting access to their device and any folder selected for screenshot storage.
11. Data Deletion
Users can delete their notes and screenshots using ClipNote's available deletion features. Users can also remove locally stored extension data through Chrome's extension management and storage controls.
